SmokefreeLibraries are now Smoking and Tobacco Free Zones

The library has joined other St. Mary's County businesses and organizations in an effort to create a healthier St. Mary's County by becoming smoking and tobacco free areas.  The Library Board approved on May 29 to make the libraries smoking and tobacco free campuses, effective June 17.  This means that smoking or tobacco use are not permitted in the libraries, on the library grounds or parking lots.

hipsterHipster in the Book Drop

Do you like music?  Check out our new music blog,   hipsterinthebookdrop.tumblr.com. If you are unfamiliar with Tumblr, it allows users to share favorite videos, pictures, links and quotes.

The blog name came from a comment a library customer posted on our Facebook page about a year ago.  The customer wrote,

"St. Mary's County Library, are you hiding a 20-something hipster in your Lexington Park bookdrop?  The new additions to your CD collection have been amazing!  I picked up music from The Antlers, The Head and the Heart, We Were Promised Jet Packs, and Wilco the last time I was in.  Thanks for adding the new tunes.  Keep 'em coming!"

If you haven't checked out our music collection, do so.  We have spent the past year cultivating it and turning it into a remarkable collection.  You can also make suggestions to add to our collection.
