New online catalog

coming May 15

The public library systems in Southern Maryland are transitioning to a new online catalog which will go live May 15.  The transition will add new features for you and provide much needed improvements to the staff side of the catalog.

How can you help?

You will be affected May 9-14 when we transition from the old catalog to the new one.  Please be aware of the following occurring May 9-14:

  • The catalog and your account will not be accessible.
  • You must present your library card to check out items.
  • No items will be due nor will fines accrue during this period.
  • We ask that you return items before May  9 or after May 14.
  • To renew, bring your library card and items to the library.  Phone and online renewals will not be possible.
  • No holds can be placed May 7-14 including Marina.
  • There will be no delivery between libraries.
  • If you use the book list option (MyList) in My Account, please save your lists now by either printing the lists off or emailing them to yourself.  These lists will not automatically transfer to the new system and will be lost May 9.  Ask staff for assistance.  The new catalog offers this feature but you will have to manually enter your lists.  If you are not familiar with the book list feature, please ask staff about it.
  • LearningExpress is the only online resource that will not be accessible.  The other online resources (databases) will not be affected.
  • Our downloadable books and downloadable magazines will not be affected.
  • You will need to obtain a guest pass from the Information Desk to use the public computers.

Some of the benefits of the new catalog:

  • Easier, faster search results
  • The option to receive text notifications
  • Alerts of new titles by your favorite authors
  • Ability to create a user name for log-in rather than using your barcode
  • Map-It feature--Libraries with the item available are shown on the Google map
  • Easier-to-use mobile catalog

All three libraries will be closed Thursday, May 15, to complete the transition to the new system.

If you have any questions, please ask staff.

Thank you for your patience and assistance.
