December 2010

Libraries now have NOOKcolor eReaders
Stop by any branch and try out one of the new NOOKcolor eReaders that  the library recently purchased to be used in the branch.  See how easy it is to download titles from the library's eBook collection onto an eReader.

Before you buy an eReader, check which types of eReaders are compatible with the library's downloadable eBooks.  If you prefer audio books, look at these audio devices.

What's New?

  • Dec. 9 is the last day to drop off your donations for Toys for Tots at any branch. The toys must be new and unwrapped.
  • Need a holiday gift suggestion?  Books make great gifts.  For book suggestions, ask library staff or check out this list:  BookPage Holiday Catalog 2010
  • More than 60 Facebook users became fans on our Facebook page this past month.  Are you a fan yet?

St. Mary's County Cemetery Project
needs your help

St. Mary's County Historic Preservation Commission has begun to record information on cemeteries and grave sites in the county, particularly those on private property.  As the population of our county grows and land is developed, it is imperative that grave sites be documented.

You can help by stopping by any branch and viewing the database the Commission has compiled and providing information on grave sites not yet included or those listed with incomplete or inaccurate information.

Shop for Groceries--Earn money for library

Sign up for McKay's Community Rewards program and designate St. Mary's County Library as your non-profit group.  Shop & use your Gold Card.  Your purchases will be credited to us.  In May we will receive a portion of the $60,000 based on the percentage of gold card purchases made from Oct. 1- April 30.  The past 2 years we have earned more than $2000 each year.

We will register you if you prefer.  Fill out a form at any branch.  Please re-register to be sure your purchases are applied to our account.
