ready for summer reading fun!
As
you make your summer plans, be sure to include library visits and our
many summer programs in your plans. It's a great way to help
your children maintain their reading skills and discover the fun of
reading.
The fun begins June 8. Watch for details on our website and in the
libraries.

Closings
All three
libraries will be closed Friday, May 8, for the Annual
Staff and Volunteer Day and on Monday, May 25, for Memorial
Day.

Technology Fund Update
Donations bring total to $22,704.
$7,296 to go
Members
of Public Action Committee (PAC) Frank Sowell, Viola Gardner and
Evaughn Lennon, recently presented Director Kathleen Reif and Library
Board members Joseph Bush and Everlyn Holland with a $1000 check for
the Technology Fund. This brings PAC's total donation to $1400.
Deborah Stephenson also made a donation this past
month.
It's not too late to make a donation to support this
valuable fund. The
Technology Fund is used to sustain the new computers purchased with
the Gates Foundation Grant. List of donors or to donate

interactive reading activities together. The activities are
geared for children 3-7 years old. Free.

Summer
Volunteers Wanted
Applications due May 22
Students going into sixth grade and above are needed to
help explain and register kids for our summer reading
programs and to give out prizes. Volunteers commit to one
two-hour block of time each week starting June 15 (June 8 for those
not in public schools) through August 8.
Those students applying are required to attend one of the following
training sessions:

New
Kid's Book Blog
Tess Goldwasser, children's librarian at Lexington Park, created a
kid's book blog containing descriptions of more than 100 picture
books with more to be added. Besides the description, each
entry features a cover image and special interest labels. Use these
labels to find books on a desired topic such as emotions, family,
animals.

Fun for Kids
Kids, ages 5-12, can pick up an Adventure Passport at any branch
starting June 1 and visit sites around the county to earn a coupon

grand prize. The passport will expire August 31.
