Saturday, October 24 at Leonardtown Library
Get ready for Howl-O-Ween, a whole day of spooky, pet themed fun! We have you covered (probably in fur) for treats, crafts, spooky stories, and more. Join us for a day filled with pet themed activities that everyone in the family, both two and four-legged, will be able to enjoy. Enjoy Halloween-themed games and activities while trick-or-treating through the Library in your costume! Please note, only service animals are permitted inside the Library. Pets must remain outdoors.
Schedule
All Day: Stroll around our outdoor story trail for a pet themed spooky tale.
10 – 11:30 a.m.: Paper Plate Masks
Still looking for the perfect touch to finish your costume? Want to match the best animal buddy you can think of? Join us for a round of paper plate mask making. You’ll be able to make a mask to look like your favorite animal or your fuzzy family member!
12 – 1:30 p.m.: Easy Homemade Dog Treats
With all the trick or treating, we think your dog friends deserve treats too! Learn how to make quick, safe treats for the dogs in your life. You’ll leave with the recipe and a few snacks to share with your furry friend! While the treat recipe used is technically safe for cats, these treats are best for dogs. This session will utilize peanuts.
1 – 4 p.m.: Howl-O-Ween Homebase
Your Howl-O-Ween Homebase (Meeting Room 2) is your destination for a whole afternoon of crafts and getting going on the various games and activities throughout the library.
2 – 3:30 p.m.: Dog-gerel Verse Competition
Think you have what it takes to write the worst poem St. Mary’s County has ever seen? Put your pencil to paper and prove it. Participants will learn a little about poetry and then try to break each and every rule they just learned all in a quest to be crowned the Worst Poet in St. Mary’s County! If you have what it takes to be bad at poetry, you should see if you can win the trophy. Yes, there will be prizes.
4 – 4:15 p.m.: Costume Pet Photo Competition Winners Announcement
Come to see the cutest submissions from our pet costume contest. We’ll cheer for the winners, give them their prizes, and know that every entrant was, in fact, a very good dog/kitty/pet.
4:14 – 4:45 p.m.: Costumed Pet Parade
Get the whole family into their best outfits and come show them off. We’ll follow the Story Trail, reading along the way. By the end, you’ll know how well your costume fits before the big night and you will have enjoyed a book with your favorite furry friends!
