For your convenience, all three Library locations offer notary service at scheduled times. The service is free but a donation to the Library would be appreciated.
Notary Service Hours:
Charlotte Hall Library (301-884-2211): Thursdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.; and Saturdays, 2 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Leonardtown Library (301-475-2846): Mondays and Thursdays, 2 – 4:30 p.m.
Lexington Park Library (301-863-8188): Tuesdays, 2 – 4:30 p.m.; Wednesdays, 5 – 7:30 p.m.; and Fridays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
There may be days or times when the notary public is not available. Please make an appointment by calling or visiting the Library to ensure staff is present and to avoid a long wait.
You must have valid (not expired) photo identification and proof of address (if current address is not on photo ID). The document to be notarized must be signed in the presence of the notary – do not sign the document before coming to the Library. If your document requires witnesses, please bring witnesses with you. Library staff will not act as witnesses.
Please note: We are not attorneys licensed to practice law in this state. We are not allowed to draft legal records, give advice on legal matters, including immigration, or charge a fee for those activities. We can only notarize documents written in English. We cannot notarize real estate documents, mortgages, depositions, wills, or documents requiring verification of facts, or certify a “true copy” of a public record or document. Documents may not be hand written, and must already contain a notary certificate with a location for the notary to stamp.
