Student Success : Educational Resources at your Library
Looking to help your student thrive in school? Dealing with homeschool burnout? Learn all about Library study resources and meet other home teachers! Registration required because of arts and crafts.
We will focus on our library services that are geared towards children and families. This includes help with searching the catalog for different subjects, using our online Homework Helper, our Library Apps, Events that we offer, and so much more! We’ll also go over navigating the library website and a mini tour of the Lexington Park Library. You’ll leave with a whole collection of bookmarks, printouts, and confidence in accessing all the benefits your library card grants you.
This program is aimed specifically towards homeschoolers & guardians of school age children.

Three Oaks Center Outreach: Lobby Visit
The Three Oaks Center will connect those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to resources in the tri county that can help them with benefits, mental health, substance abuse, housing, and more.
They will also be completing referrals for service on site and collecting paperwork to enroll in their programs and/or offer shelter if available.

Bring your littles along to this Big & Little yoga class! Children ages 3 to10 are invited to join their caregivers at this morning yoga session.
Mats will be available, but please feel free to bring your own yoga mat or a beach towel to use.

Artist Meagan LeVelle will lead you through the steps of creating a beautiful landscape using acrylic paint. No prior artistic experience needed!
Please wear clothing that can be splattered with paint as acrylic paint does not normally wash out.

Cooking Up Confidence
The kitchen comes to the library with a cooking demonstration mixed with wellness! This series will help teach vital skills to tweens, teens, and their caretakers.
Attendees will learn vital food safety skills as well as self sufficiency methods and broadening skill sets on nutrition, meal preparation, and healthy decision making. Labs are hands on food demonstrations. List food allergies during registration so we can prepare alternatives as needed!

Meet Cheryl Knott, St. Mary's County native with a unique perspective on the history of the county.
Born in 1959 with a physical disability that impacted how she walked, Cheryl's life was dramatically different from other children her age. Hear her story of growing up in a world that was hesitant to make space for her.

My School Year Treasure Box
Kick off the school year with a memory treasure box that can be updated throughout the year.
Let out your creative side as we create a treasure box to keep all those important school papers. What gets put into the memory box? It is up to you! From drawings to that math test to a special note; each person can decide what can be put in their memory box. We will learn how to keep those treasures organized for the entire school too!

Our SoMD History-A Tapestry of Many Voices: The Big Conversation
(in person at Middleham & St. Peter's Parish)
Join us in person for a panel featuring voices of teens to local leaders, sharing different perspectives on Southern Maryland history. Discover how personal perspectives are developed that shape how you see the past, why those views matter, and how understanding different perspectives can improve your relationships, make you a better leader and help our communities work together more effectively.
After the panel, take part in small, guided group discussions to share your own ideas, experiences and stories. How can understanding different perspectives help strengthen Southern Maryland as a community? What practical steps can you and our local leaders take to foster mutual respect, cooperation and a shared sense of place and history?
The forum is brought to you by The Big Conversation Partners in Dismantling Racism and Privilege in Southern Maryland.

When you register, you will be asked for the race with which you identify. This is voluntary. We ask for this to create diversified small groups. The same is true regarding age.
Also, you will be asked if you are able to negotiate stairs. A few of the small groups will be located on the lower level.

Delve into the captivating world of ancient migrations and explore the journey of our earliest ancestors.
This presentation will explore the journey of our earliest ancestors, unveiling the movements and milestones that have ultimately shaped who we are today, including the pivotal role of Africa as the source of modern humans.
Speaker - Sarah Hlubik, Visiting Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland
Sarah Hlubik is a paleoarchaeologist specializing in the origins of human behavior, culture, and fire use. Her research focuses on the Koobi Fora region in Kenya, a rich fossil and archaeological area. By examining evidence of fire use and its impact on human evolution, she aims to understand its effect on the broader fire ecology and natural landscapes in the Pleistocene.
World on the Move: 250,00 years of Human Migration was developed by the American Anthropological Association, together with the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage and Smithsonian Exhibits. It is administered by the American Library Association’s Public Programs Office.

Learn research skills using our free online resources to celebrate National Cooking Day!
Find images through your research to create custom buttons showcasing cultural foods, recipes, and cooking techniques!
Participants will use various online databases including the St. Mary's Library's free online resources and the Library of Congress web archives to explore culturally significant foods, recipes, and cooking techniques. We will then use the button maker to create decorative pins with printed photos, snippets of articles, and more. Wear your button and celebrate your knowledge!

An all-ages chess social hang-out! Drop in and out to play as needed, no experience required. Staff will be available to assist those who haven't played before.
Small chess guides will be available for each player for reference. Chess boards will be provided by the library, but feel free to bring your favorite set.
