Closed - Job Opportunity - Public Technology Assistant

POSITION: Public Technology Assistant, Part-time
LOCATION: Lexington Park Library
HOURS: 28 hours per week; Mondays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, 12 - 8 p.m.; Thursdays, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; every other Friday/Saturday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
SALARY: $19.14 per hour; Grade 1, Step 1
BENEFITS: 56 hours PTO; 7% mandatory retirement contribution; Optional: credit union, 457 plan; AFLAC
REQUISITES:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • 1 year customer service experience preferred
  • General knowledge of library services desirable
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office and navigation of the Internet
  • Basic knowledge of network components and skills
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both public and staff.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to solve problems, negotiate situations and issues, make independent judgments and decisions
DUTIES INCLUDE:
  • Under the supervision of a branch assigned staff member, the public technology assistant (PTA) helps customers use computers and other machines in the library, provides support service at the Information Desks, and troubleshoots computer hardware and software.
  • The PTA will also assist staff and customers at other branches throughout the St. Mary’s County library system as needed.
  • Customer assistance will include but is not limited to basic features of library computers, Microsoft Office, computer signup, directional questions and other duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshooting computer hardware and software will include, but not be limited to, performing software updates, correcting minor network issues, and replacing computer components.
