- You will need to create an account with an email address and password to use Kanopy. The email address and password do not need to match your Library card or account.
- Each month you have 12 tickets to use in Kanopy. Depending on the length and viewing period of each title, movies in Kanopy will require between 0 and 5 tickets per viewing. These tickets reset each month and do not roll over to the next month. You can see your remaining tickets for the month in the top-right corner of the homepage.
- Viewing period varies by title. The time is listed on each title.
- Kanopy Kids doesn’t use tickets. You can access an unlimited number of Kanopy Kids titles each month.
Help with Kanopy
It says my Library card number may be incorrect.
Make sure you are typing in your library card number without spaces. If that doesn’t work, it’s possible that your card has expired, or your account is not set to a St. Mary’s County Library location. Contact us for help with your card. If you recently got a new Library card number, you can update the number in Kanopy in a web browser, clicking My Account, then My Libraries, then clicking the three dots to the right of the library name to edit the card number.

Kanopy Kids
Kanopy Kids is a carefully curated collection of the best children’s programming available today. The kids’ selection is curated to support early literacy, STEM education, and even foreign language learning. Using favorite children’s characters from Sesame Street, PBS Kids, Weston Woods, and more, this collection of kids films inspire empathy, critical thinking, and self-esteem in young viewers. Children and their parents can enjoy Kanopy Kids with a generous viewing period and parental controls.
When you open Kanopy Kids, or click Kids from the Kanopy homepage, you will see an option to set Parental Controls. You can create a PIN that will need to be entered when exiting Kanopy Kids in order to watch content outside of the Kids collection. Parental controls can only be managed from a browser, though your PIN will be required to exit Kanopy Kids from any device logged into your account. See more about Parental Controls.
