St. Mary’s County Library and St. Mary’s County Arts Council Seeking Submissions for Quaranzine

April 16, 2020

April 16, 2020 – Leonardtown, Md. – St. Mary’s County Library and St. Mary’s County Arts Council are accepting submissions to Quaranzine, a collection of creative works from our community that will document how we responded to this strange time we find ourselves in. Quaranzine will be a small online publication of local art and writing by the St. Mary’s County community, distributed through the Library website.

All ages are welcome and encouraged to submit work on the St. Mary’s County Library website. Please note that content should be appropriate for a wide audience including all ages. We hope to publish issues to the St. Mary’s County Library website once per week. The first issue was published on Wednesday, April 15. Frequency will depend on the number of submissions we receive.

Submissions may include, but are not limited to:

  • art
  • writing: essays, poetry, fiction, Top Ten lists, reviews, etc. (500 words or fewer)
  • visual tutorials
  • comics
  • photography
  • recipes

“Our creativity doesn’t shut down during a pandemic.” said Nell Elder, Executive Director for St. Mary’s County Arts Council. “The arts are vital to us, and we keep creating! We are excited to partner with the St. Mary’s County Library to give our community a chance to express themselves during this extraordinary time.”

“Art and literature get us through tough times. Thank you to our partners from the Arts Council for bringing together our art community for this effort!” said Amy Ford, Lexington Park Library Branch Manager. “We’re glad to showcase the talent here in St. Mary’s County. Keep creating!”

Submissions will be reviewed by a committee of St. Mary’s County Library and St. Mary’s County Arts Council staff. Submissions are limited to one per person, per issue. Anyone within the St. Mary’s County Library community may submit. You do not need to be a St. Mary’s County resident to participate.

By submitting work you grant the St. Mary’s County Library and St. Mary’s County Arts Council the right to publish that work in Quaranzine. Though published by St. Mary’s County Library and St. Mary’s County Arts Council, ownership rights of original work remain with the creator. Submitting work does not guarantee publication. All content must be original and previously unpublished. All work is subject to County and Library standards of conduct.
