Donate Snacks to Help Feed Hungry Kids!
For the past nine summers, in partnership with St. Mary’s County Public Schools and the USDA, we have provided Lunch at the Library at Lexington Park Library. Last summer, Lunch at the Library served nearly 800 meals to hungry kids. Unfortunately, this year there is no funding for a daily, in-person meal program. Instead, our goal for Summer 2026 is to provide hearty snacks for kids Monday through Friday at Lexington Park Library, June 15 through August 21.
In order to achieve this goal, we need your help!
We are accepting donations of non-perishable, individually packaged snacks at all Library locations, May 8 through August 14.
Recommended snacks include:
- Granola bars
- Fruit cups / applesauce pouches
- Shelf-stable milk or juice boxes
- Individual packs of crackers/pretzels/popcorn/chickpeas, etc.
- Peanut butter packs (or allergy-safe alternatives)
- Trail mix
- Tuna pouches
- Mini chomps or meat sticks
- Raisins
- Individual hummus or ranch cups
- Freeze dried fruit or fruit leather
- Mini bagels
If you’d like to donate perishable snacks such as string cheese, fruits, vegetables, etc. please contact info@stmalib.org.
Monetary Support
Would you rather give a monetary donation to support this effort? Donate through PayPal to help fund additional snacks or purchased lunches from local food establishments. If you’d prefer to donate via check, you can make the check out to St. Mary’s County Library, with Summer Snacks in the memo line, and drop it off at any of our locations or mail to:
Leonardtown Library
Attn: Belinda Lloyd
23630 Hayden Farm Lane
Leonardtown, MD 20650
Food Establishments
We are also looking for local restaurants/caterers/food establishments to donate or provide lunch for approximately 50 children with their accompanying adult on one day during the summer (Wednesdays, June 15 through August 21). If you own a local food establishment and are interested in working with us, please email info@stmalib.org.
Why Lexington Park Library and not our other locations?
Lexington Park Library has the most concentrated need and is the location where we see the highest number of hungry children during the summer. This is also where we have held Lunch at the Library since 2017, and we know many customers will come hoping to get food. If we receive enough donations over the course of the summer, we may be able to expand to give out snacks at our other locations during or after children’s programs.
