PLA Digital Literacy Workshops
St. Mary’s County Library is among over 100 public libraries nationwide awarded funding by the Public Library Association (PLA) to increase digital literacy using Digitallearn.org resources, powered by a generous $2.7 million contribution from AT&T. We’re offering workshops and drop-in tech help to improve basic digital skills within our community. Learn more and register for workshops!
In-Person Help
St. Mary’s County Library offers computer and technology instruction in the form of scheduled class sessions and one-on-one appointments with our excellent staff. Upcoming classes are listed at the bottom of this page. Registration is recommended. One-on-one appointments may be scheduled by submitting an appointment request form or visiting or calling your library.

Marylanders Online
Marylanders Online is a free, statewide program of the University of Maryland Extension (UME) in partnership with the College of Information Studies (INFO) working to promote digital literacy, equity, and inclusion throughout the state of Maryland. The Marylanders Online program serves as an accessible digital literacy resource that will close the digital divide experienced by the thousands of Maryland residents who lack access to the internet, a digital device, or the skills to utilize either. Through the provision of quality resources, tools, education, and support, Marylanders Online’s goal is to promote digital literacy throughout the state of Maryland. The Marylanders Online Call Center provides free one-on-one tech support via phone or email to all Maryland residents in an effort to bring digital equity to Maryland.
Reach the Call Center Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 301-405-9810, or toll free at 1-866-206-8467. Email them at marylandersonline@umd.edu.
The Call Center provides:
- Tech support in English and Spanish
- Any device support including hardware and software
- Assistance in getting connected with internet
- ACP application assistance
- Connect to local organizations offering various digital skills classes, device program, and much more

Email Basics
Get started using email today!
Email can be intimidating but once you learn the basics, you’ll be able to use it more confidently. Join us for this in-person computer class to learn all the ins and outs of using email. We will introduce you to Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook. If you already have an email account, please bring with you the email address, password, and cellphone. Don’t have an email account? No problem! We’ll help you set one up in class.

Fix-It Fair: Electrical Wiring
Community members are invited to bring in broken household items and learn how to repair them themselves!
Local experts will be here to guide you through the repair process, with a different focus each month. December's focus is electrical wiring! Bring in your broken holiday lights, charging cables, small kitchen appliances, and anything else with electrical wiring, and let's see if we can't fix it together.
Tools, materials, and light refreshments will be provided. Registration is encouraged; walk-ins welcome as space allows.

Looking for a new creative outlet? Learn about popular, free platforms to design online.
Looking for a creative outlet? Try your hand at one or more free, user-friendly, web-based graphic design tools! In this presentation, we'll explore the popular design platform, Canva, and demonstrate how you can get very creative with basic tools like Google Slides. We'll also take a look at Photoshop Express, the web-based, free version of Photoshop.

Cricut Crafts: Layered Adhesive Vinyl Ornaments
Unlock your crafting potential by learning how to use the Cricut cutting machine to make your own layered adhesive vinyl ornament.
This introductory, in-person class will cover how to use an electronic die-cutting machine called the Cricut Maker to create and cut vinyl designs to be applied to an ornament. Participants will also learn the basics of Cricut Design Space, the software used to create endlessly customizable designs. No experience necessary, all materials provided.
After learning the basics, you'll be able to return to the Leonardtown Library Makerspace during open hours to use the Cricut on your own to create whatever you can imagine! Visit the MAKERSPACE WEBPAGE to see open hours and learn about all it has to offer!

Using one of our newspaper archives, we take a look and read through a newspaper from back in the day and look at how things have changed.
Affordable Connectivity Program
In this hands-on workshop, you’ll verify your eligibility for the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and apply for the program using the online application!
ACP is a government program that helps qualifying low-income households pay for internet service and connected devices. In some cases, depending on your internet plan, the ACP discount may help you get home internet for free!
This program replaces the Emergency Broadband Benefit (EBB) program and expands the eligibility requirements so more people are eligible to participate. Once your application is accepted, contact an Internet Service
Provider about getting home internet.
