Participants will learn basic hand‑sewing techniques like blanket stitch and split stitch while creating their very own whimsical plushie inspired by Dr. Seuss's classic character—complete with a mischievous grin and a heart that might just grow three sizes bigger. Explore the world of graphic storytelling with hands-on comic & zine-making activities, then join Raina Telgemeier herself for a live online author talk about her newest book, a Q&A, & a draw-along. You bring the beat—your code brings the magic! Get ready to code, groove, and create your very own Dance Party! In this high-energy adventure, you’ll pick your favorite music, choose your dancers, and use simple coding blocks to make them bust out epic moves. Want rainbow colors? Giant dancers? Surprise moves that happen when you press a key? You’re the DJ and the programmer! No experience needed—just your imagination. You’ll learn how to make animations move with the music, trigger cool dance events, and design a show that’s totally your style. By the end, you’ll have your own shareable dance creation that looks like it came straight from a music video. Come code the beat, turn up the fun, and show off your creativity. Your Dance Party starts now! Learn more about the library's Cricut Maker and practice cutting Infusible Ink to create a cozy cocoa mug! This introductory, hands-on class will cover how to use an electronic die-cutting machine called the Cricut Maker to decorate a ceramic mug by cutting an infusible ink design and using the Cricut Mug Press to transfer the design through a process called sublimation. Participants will also learn the basics of Cricut Design Space, the software used to create endlessly customizable designs compatible with Cricut cutting machines. No experience necessary, all materials provided. NOTE: This session is intended for teens ages 12-18 only. Join us for learning-based crafts, games, and activities as we play our way to developing valuable school readiness skills such as fine motor control, following directions, and group participation. We'll have a D&D 5e Game every time, while we may have new games to teach as well. Learn to sew a basic blanket stitch and make a little cuddle buddy all at once! Snuggle up with a lovey you made! Supplies will be provided, once your new friend is finished you can bring them home with you! Decorate cups with permanent markers, then watch the magic as heat shrinks them into colorful, sturdy keepsakes—perfect for gifts or holiday décor. All supplies provided; just bring your creativity! Celebrate the Icelandic holiday of Jólabókaflód, the Yule Book Flood, with us. Take a book and leave a book in our community book exchange, plus enjoy reading, snacks, and relaxing activities in our cozy space. The Jólabókaflód tradition started during World War II, when paper was one of the few commodities not rationed during the war. Icelanders exchanged books around the holidays, as gifts and other materials were hard to come by. For more information on this tradition, take a look at the Jólabókaflód website! Calling all HUNTR/X and Saja Boys fans for a Golden time at this K-Pop Demon Hunters Party at the Lexington Park Library! Get ready to show us How It's Done for this music-filled event! Make KPOP Demon Hunters themed buttons, sample some popular Korean snacks and sodas, and find out which member of HUNTR/X you are! Registration is recommended for this event. This event was designed with lower and upper elementary, tweens, and teens in mind. An all-ages chess social hang-out! Drop in and out to play as needed, no experience required. Staff will be available to assist those who haven't played before. Use cardboard to make adorable and impressive castles or cabins for your feline friends to enjoy! Using the Library's ChompSaw, a child-safe specialized saw for cutting cardboard, and some other child-safe cutting tools, participants will be given a starter design and then be encouraged to improve and experiment with designs of their own. Through trial-and-error testing, learn what goes into engineering to create more effective supports, and work together to share and implement ideas. Open-ended robot fun! Tinker, test, & create with Botley, Indi, & Ozobot. Solve mazes, tackle challenges, & build your own mini games. It's hands-on fun for all skill levels. No registration needed. Calling all tiny engineers! You're invited to design a train track, stack some magnets, and explore the joys of building. Drop in from 1-2:30 p.m. to join the fun! Calling all snack judges to sample a range of store-brand cookies-and-cream sandwich cookies alongside the iconic Oreo in a blind taste test. Does the name brand truly reign supreme or can your tongue be tricked? Evaluate flavor, texture, and crunch before recording your observations to compare with the rest of group. Participants can bring in and discuss whatever they're reading, whether it's novels, graphic novels, nonfiction books, audiobooks, etc., participate in a craft, and enjoy refreshments with peers.
