LexiCon is an event for people of all ages who love comic books, science fiction, fantasy, gaming, and superheroes! Join us for trivia, an obstacle course for kids, a cosplay contest, and prizes! Cut, paint, and redesign old or new squishies with Halloween flair. All materials provided—costumes welcome!
Get ready to cut, glue, paint, and create your very own spooky-cute squishy creation in this hands-on Halloween workshop inspired by YouTube artist Moriah Elizabeth! At Franken-Squishy, we’ll breathe new life into old or damaged squishies—just like Dr. Frankenstein—with monster makeovers, creepy-cute combos, and Halloween-themed transformations. Participants will mix and match parts, use fabric paint to redesign, and turn squishy "misfits" into spooky masterpieces! All materials provided—just bring your creativity and an old squishy or two if you have them. Costumes encouraged but not required! REGISTRATION OPENS OCTOBER 1st! Join us for a study in nature - we'll chat about leaves and trees, do some leaf crafting, and head into the Front Yard to see if we can be tree detectives! This event is intended for preschoolers. Teens and Tweens can bring one item of their own to be dyed, or snag one here that we provide from various accessories. A STEM-based program for preschool-aged children all about our favorite orange gourd! Participants will enhance their motor skills while using tweezers to count pumpkin seeds; practice the scientific method to estimate the height, weight, and circumference of provided pumpkins; and participate in a sensory experience by making slime inside of a real pumpkin! This program was designed for preschool and lower elementary aged children. Please register each child attending. Explore the garden and go on guided nature walks with a Master Gardener! A St. Mary's County Master Gardener will take groups of kids with their parents into the garden and around the outside of the Library to observe and explore nature and our surroundings. We will learn about trees changing color, seeds sleeping in the ground and what they will grow into, pollinators and the lives that live in the garden. She will show and teach use of various tools and explain their importance for observation and education. Infants to younger elementary children and their parents will be taken in groups to explore, there will be activities inside for those waiting. Use cardboard to make adorable and impressive castles or cabins for your feline friends to enjoy! Using the Library's ChompSaw, a child-safe specialized saw for cutting cardboard, and some other child-safe cutting tools, participants will be given a starter design and then be encouraged to improve and experiment with designs of their own. Through trial-and-error testing, learn what goes into engineering to create more effective supports, and work together to share and implement ideas. Create a not-so-spooky new friend out of simple supplies! All materials provided. This program is intended for upper elementary aged children. Please register each child participating. Can you escape before it's too late? Each group will have 20 minutes to complete the escape room. As the appointments are timed, your time may be further restricted depending on time of arrival. If you arrive after ten minutes past your registration time, you will not be able to complete the escape room. Registration is required and is now available! Only one person may register the whole party for each time slot. Please include the names of the additional guests who will be completing the escape room in the registration notes. This program is intended for teens. Tweens may attend but the puzzle difficulty may require assistance! Time slots are as follows. Join us at the Lexington Manor Passive Park Community Garden for a joyful year-end celebration with music, snacks, and activities! Learn essential gardening skills at one of the mini seed-saving workshops, create a craft to beautify your home garden, and share stories and seeds with fellow gardeners as we reflect on another successful year at the Community Garden. This event features a native plant swap and a vegetable seed swap to support our pollinators and local biodiversity! Spread the joy by bringing native plants and veggie seeds to share, or simply enjoy the abundance of the season as you build your garden for next year!
