Therapy animals from Pets on Wheels are visiting the library! Friends of all ages are invited to practice reading with a furry friend, or just enjoy some pets and snuggles.

Art doesn't have to be intimidating, or time consuming. Instead, it can be a chance to explore creativity, the ability to make mistakes, and an opportunity to try something new.

Each session will feature a small art and/or craft project that can be completed in an hour to an hour and a half.

Community Quilt Project Details:

• Square Submission: By submitting a quilt square, participants acknowledge that the library reserves the right to keep all submitted squares and may not necessarily use every submitted square in the final quilt design
• Cut-off Date for Donations: Tuesday, March 10, 2026
• Square Specifications:

  • Material: Quilt squares must be made of cotton material, such as old library bags or library t-shirts.

  • Size: Squares should be 13 inches, which will be trimmed to a standard 12-inch square, allowing for a ½-inch seam allowance on all sides.

  • Design: Participants should refrain from using any vulgar or profane content in their designs.

• Quilt Completion: After the cut-off date, library staff and volunteers will organize the donated squares into a cohesive design. The quilt will be assembled by community members during regular meetings at the library and potentially other library branches. Upon completion, the Library Community Friendship Quilt will be displayed at the libraries.

The Lit Kit is just like those boxes - except it's FREE! The Lit Kit is a free customized box for teens ages 14-17 filled with 3-4 goodies AND up to 2 YA library books that we'll choose for you (please note: the library books must be returned).

Registration begins on the 28th of the previous month and will close on the 5th of the month, or when registration reaches the maximum amount of registrations. 

On the 10th of the month, The Lit Kit will be available to be picked up at the Library location of your choosing. This can be picked up inside of the branch, or via curbside appointment. If more than one location is closed on the 10th, the Lit Kit will be available the next day all three building locations are open.

Lit Kits will be held for a week before the items are returned to the library.

Participants will learn how to transform a sock with the help of string, a hot glue gun, and stuffing into a snowy plush companion to take home. All materials will be provided. This program is meant for adults of all ages and abilities, but no prior skills in crafting are needed.

Enjoy time & space to unwind, get creative, and connect! Open ended activities available to do solo or with friends. Take a break from the digital world to come have fun and meet new people!

This is a relaxed, no judgment zone for self-expression and conversation. Give your brain a rest from the doom-scrolling - come chat in person about anything and everything! Have a skirt, dress, or kilt that you love, but it doesn’t have pockets? Learn how to add your own! Bring a garment to work on and we’ll provide the rest!

We will go over all the steps needed to add your own pockets to your clothing so that you will never find yourself lacking somewhere to put your phone, wallet, keys, etc.

Needles, thread, and fabric for the pockets will be provided. Just be sure to bring your own clothing item to work on. We highly recommend you select a garment that you are not extremely attached to, incase of any accidents. Items with side-seams may be easier to maneuver your first time, though we will go over how to add pockets to items with or without them.

This will be a hand-sewing based program, rather than a machine-sewing one. Prior sewing skills are not required, though they will help you with the process.

Maryland Health Connection's Certified Enrollment Counselors from Seedco will help you identify the plans that meet your needs and budget!

Open enrollment through Maryland Health Connection is November 1st through January 15th. During this time, Maryland residents, 65 and under, who are not enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare, VA, or have an offer of employer sponsored health insurance may be eligible to apply.

What occurred as our Founding Fathers wrote the U.S. Constitution over 200 years ago? Dr. Jim Gibb will continue his American Revolution series with a presentation on the Constitutional Convention.

Before exploring the issues confronting Convention delegates, we need to understand how we know about discussions held in secret. The critical divide between “Small State” and “Large State” delegates pervaded those discussions. What’s that all about and how did it mold the Constitution? Who are “We the People” with which begins the Preamble to the Constitution? Understanding these issues necessarily grounds subsequent discussion of the negotiations and final Constitution.

Take a book and leave a book in our community book exchange, plus enjoy reading, snacks, and relaxing activities in our cozy space.

The Jólabókaflód tradition started during World War II, when paper was one of the few commodities not rationed during the war.
