Design the wooden frame for your suncatcher and then watch as the library glow forge cuts out your design. Return in two weeks to fill in your suncatcher with color!

Design a pattern for a hanging window ornament and then come back to pick up your complete artwork once our glow forge has cut out your design.

Two weeks after this program we will hold a second program where you can glue in tissue paper or epoxy resign to color in your window. Register for Sun Catcher Workshop Part 2. 

Learn how to create a memorable LinkedIn profile and control your social media presence and how others see you online.

Join the Mobile Library for an all-ages storytime in the park followed by bubbles, music, playtime, and art! The Mobile Library will be open for library services as well.

This activity will take place outdoors from 9:30-11 a.m. on Mondays in June and July. Participants should bring blankets or chairs for comfort. Register with an email address to receive the link to a trivia game and test your knowledge! The game is multiple choice questions and speed matters!

Registration for each week ends at 5 p.m. on Mondays. After 5 p.m., registrants will be emailed a link to that week's trivia. You will have until Thursday at 5 p.m. to complete the game, then you'll receive an email with the full results. Trivia uses Kahoot, accessible through any internet browser, no account needed.

Art doesn't have to be intimidating, or time consuming. Instead, it can be a chance to explore creativity, the ability to make mistakes, and an opportunity to try something new.

Each session will feature a small art and/or craft project that can be completed in an hour to an hour and a half.
 

Therapy animals from Pets on Wheels are visiting the library! Friends of all ages are invited to practice reading with a furry friend, or just enjoy some pets and snuggles.

In this step-by-step watercolor class, learn beginner friendly brush techniques and layering and create a piece. Learn the process to create watercolors and mix pigment and binder to make your own!

This is a guided step-by-step water color class. Beginner friendly brush techniques and layering will be taught to create a piece. Jars showing the process to create watercolors will be shown and the final dried pigment will be passed around for guests to mix with binder to use in the painting.

We’ll discuss how AI actually processes what you give it, why it sometimes misses the mark, and small changes you can make in prompting that can make a big difference.

You’ll leave the workshop with:

• Practical strategies to avoid common issues, like vague prompts, blind trust in the output, and more
• Hands-on practice applying generative AI to something you actually do
• A simple method you can reuse going forward

Get ready for a musical adventure through Latin America with Cantaré! With music in Spanish, Portuguese, and English, we'll explore the joyful songs, rhythms, dances, and instruments of many cultures.

Calling all teen writers! Participate in a workshop with Tracy Gatton from the Maryland Writer's Association designed to improve your worldbuilding, character creation, and writing skills!

This event is intended for writers aged 13-18. Feel free to bring your tablet, laptop, journal, or wherever you write best!

Registration is recommended for this event. 

Tracy L. Gatton has been a lover of words and stories since she was very young. In 2021, she achieved her lifelong dream of publishing her own words in a collection called  I Will Raise My Voice! Poetry for the Beautifully Broken, which is available on Amazon. In addition to being a self-published author, Tracy has been a dental assistant for 35 years. 20 of those years she spent in pediatric dentistry, using storytelling to make her young patient's visits less scary and to teach them how to care for their dental health. An active member of her church, Tracy also serves children by sharing stories of God's love for them every Sunday. Tracy has been a Teen Mentor for the Maryland Writers Association (MWA) and St. Mary’s County Library since 2022. In this position, Tracy enjoys helping local youth improve their writing skills, encourage others, and be encouraged in a safe and welcoming space. 

Join us for our summer art series! This summer, we’ll be introducing kids to four different artworks from around the world and the art techniques used.

After, they’ll have a chance to recreate the piece, or use it as inspiration to make their own unique piece of art.

For this third session, we will look at works from MC Escher’s Symmetry Series, and participants will have a chance to learn about tessellations and make their own tessellation artwork.

Make sure you wear clothes you don’t mind getting messy!

Join us for a morning of Lotería- Library edition (Mexican Bingo) for all ages! The bingo boards have colorful pictures with Spanish words labeling the picture. Pictures will be called in Spanish and translated to English, giving you an opportunity to learn new Spanish or English words!

Have you ever wanted something 3D printed at the library, but weren't sure how? Now is your chance to learn!

This introductory course will cover the basics of how a 3D printer works and how to use PrusaSlicer software. Learn how to find ready-to-print files online and submit them to the Library for printing. No prior experience is needed. This is an in-person class held in the Computer Lab followed by a tour of the Makerspace.

Attendees under 14 years old need to be accompanied by an adult for the entirety of the class and the adult should register for the class in addition to the child.

True crime has quickly risen to becoming one of the most popular topics for books, movies, television series, and podcasts.

We'll discuss what true crime really is, its climb to popularity, and some fan favorites from the last few years. We'll then be joined by local author Leslie LeDonne to talk about her book Killing Henrietta: The Unsolved Murder of a Young Widow in a Small Southern Maryland Town. LeDonne will go over what sparked her interest in the subject, how she carried out her investigation, and what it was like to put it all together in her book.

Whether you are new to the genre or fancy yourself an amateur sleuth, you're sure to leave with a new understanding and appreciation for true crime and maybe even some new book recommendations.

Hone your skills as a modern-day treasure hunter racing against time to uncover a hidden historical secret!

In honor of the country's 250th birthday, solve a series of riddles, puzzles, and challenges inspired by our nation's history to discover "whodunnit" in a casual, self-paced immersive experience. Choose to solve solo or in a small group! Please use the Add More People button when registering to register every person who will be attending the event.

If you just can't get enough sleuthing, join us earlier in the month at Charlotte Hall Library on Saturday, July 11 for an additional escape room event. Same theme, all new clues! Register for the Charlotte Hall Library event.

Make a suncatcher by gluing colorful tissue paper onto or pouring resin into frames made by our glow forge. You can bring frames you made in our earlier program or use one of our provided frames.

Join the Mobile Library for an all-ages storytime in the park followed by bubbles, music, playtime, and art! The Mobile Library will be open for library services as well.

This activity will take place outdoors from 9:30-11 a.m. on Mondays in June and July. Participants should bring blankets or chairs for comfort. Free, nutritious lunches for kids 0-18 and their accompanying adults. Lunches must be eaten on-site; no carry-outs. Enjoy simple educational activities provided by the Library while you eat!
