The Makerspace at Lexington Park Library is a flexible, participatory learning environment where Makers can utilize a variety of hands-on learning opportunities, gain access to technology to encourage entrepreneurship, and become more creative and empowered with new skills. St. Mary’s County Library wants Makers of all sorts to be able to share the space and equipment with one another!
Makerspace Hours
The Makerspace at Lexington Park Library is open:
- Mondays, 5 – 7:30 p.m.
- Tuesdays, 5 – 7:30 p.m.
- Thursdays, 2 – 5 p.m.
- Fridays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Saturdays, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
- Sundays, 1 – 4 p.m.
Use of the Makerspace
Makers must observe all the Library’s policies in the Makerspace. Additionally, by entering the Makerspace, Makers agree to the additional guidelines and responsibilities listed in the Makerspace Policy.
Available Equipment
Memory Lab 36″ Large Format Printer Button Maker Sublimation Printer and Oven
Other Equipment
- Desktop Laminator (pouches are available in 11″ x 17″, 8.5″ x 11″, and 4″ x 6″)
- Innofans Beginner Pottery Wheels designed with kids in mind. Offers one-button power operation and speed control suitable for beginners. Crayola air dry clay can be used with the wheel so that no kiln is necessary.
- ChompSaw: a cardboard cutting power tool designed to be safe for children. This machine can cut, score, and hole punch cardboard while keeping fingers, hair, and clothes safe.
How much does this cost?
Desktop Laminating: $0.50 per laminating pouch used
Large Format Printing: $4 per foot
Sublimation Printing: $0.50 per page
Pricing for various items is still being determined and this section will be updated accordingly. We welcome donations for free services like the button maker so that we can continue to purchase materials for the Makerspace.

Events in the Makerspace at Lexington Park Library
Sun Catcher Workshop Part 1
Design the wooden frame for your suncatcher and then watch as the library glow forge cuts out your design. Return in two weeks to fill in your suncatcher with color!
Design a pattern for a hanging window ornament and then come back to pick up your complete artwork once our glow forge has cut out your design.
Two weeks after this program we will hold a second program where you can glue in tissue paper or epoxy resign to color in your window. Register for Sun Catcher Workshop Part 2.
Art to Unwind
Art doesn't have to be intimidating, or time consuming. Instead, it can be a chance to explore creativity, the ability to make mistakes, and an opportunity to try something new.
Each session will feature a small art and/or craft project that can be completed in an hour to an hour and a half.
Common Thread
Whether you have been stitching for years, or you just want to learn, join fellow crafters who love all things fabric and fiber. Register to receive email/text reminders. Walk-in's welcome!
Open to knitters, crocheters, quilters, embroiderers, cross-stitchers, and any other kind of needleworkers. Bring your current project, mingle with like-minded makers, and swap patterns, ideas, and tips. Basic supplies available, if needed. All skill levels welcome. No registration required.

Make a suncatcher by gluing colorful tissue paper onto or pouring resin into frames made by our glow forge. You can bring frames you made in our earlier program or use one of our provided frames.

Everyone needs a bit of time to relax and create. Come and paint with your fellow library users. Chat and make friends, or paint on your own - however you feel that day.
